Full Day in the Serengeti

Dawn-to-dusk game drives across the Serengeti’s legendary plains. Travel tip

Early mornings and late afternoons are the best times for predator sightings. Alarm calls from other animals often mean a lion or leopard is nearby. The kopjes are excellent places to look for big cats.

Day 4

Serengeti → Ngorongoro

After a final sunrise drive in the Serengeti, leave the plains and drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area toward the crater highlands. The road crosses rolling grasslands, seasonal lakes and kopje country, with wildlife viewing all the way. Arrive at your lodge on the crater rim in time for a fireside dinner and sunset over the caldera.

The Manor at Ngorongoro - Full Board

A Cape-Dutch style manor on a working coffee estate near the crater rim, with private cottages, fireplaces and a spa.

Travel tip

The drive from the Serengeti to Ngorongoro is a game drive in itself. Watch for cheetah on the open plains, giraffe browsing acacia tops and large herds of wildebeest and zebra during migration season.

Day 5

Ngorongoro Crater → Lake Manyara

Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater at dawn for a full-day Big Five search. The crater floor shelters elephants, lions, buffalo, zebras, hippos and the rare black rhino, with flamingos coloring the soda lakes. After a picnic lunch, ascend the crater walls and drive down to Lake Manyara, arriving at your lodge on the Rift Valley escarpment for a relaxing evening.

Day 6

Lake Manyara → Arusha / Kilimanjaro Airport

Spend the morning exploring Lake Manyara’s groundwater forest, where baboons and elephants roam beneath mahogany trees, and the acacia woodlands where famous tree-climbing lions rest. After a picnic lunch, drive back to Arusha and continue to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight. If you have time, extend your journey with a beach escape to Zanzibar, Pemba or Mafia Island.

Meals included

Travel tip

Look up into the acacia trees for tree-climbing lions and watch for large elephant herds near the lake shore. The groundwater forest is beautiful in early morning light. Ensure all your travel documents and camera gear are packed before the airport transfer.
